The short answer: Manufacturing is hard to explain in words and easy to show on camera. These are the seven films we recommend most often to manufacturers in Wakefield and across Yorkshire, what each one is for, and how to get the most out of a single day of filming.

Why video works so well for manufacturers
Buyers want to know three things before they pick up the phone: can you make it, can you make enough of it, and can they trust you to deliver. A good film answers all three in a couple of minutes, in a way a brochure never can. It shows the scale of your site, the care your team takes and the kit you have invested in.
1. The capability film
A two to three minute overview of who you are, what you make and who you make it for. It lives on your home page and goes in every proposal. Shoot the whole process from raw material to finished product, and let your people explain it in their own words.
2. The aerial site film
Nothing shows scale like drone footage. A short aerial film of your site, yard or fleet tells buyers immediately that you can handle volume. Use licensed drone pilots: flying over industrial sites needs proper permissions and a safety plan. Ours are fully licensed.
3. Process explainers
Short films of 30 to 90 seconds, each showing one process, machine or capability: welding, CNC machining, testing, finishing. They are ideal for service pages and LinkedIn, and they answer technical questions before a sales call.
4. Customer stories
A client explaining, on camera, why they chose you and what happened next is the most persuasive video you can make. Keep it honest and specific: the problem, the solution, the result.
5. Recruitment films
Many manufacturers struggle to hire. A short film showing your workplace, your team and the progression available does more for a job advert than any amount of text. Film it on the same day as your capability film to keep costs down.
6. Sustainability and quality stories
If you recycle materials, hold accreditations or have invested in cleaner processes, show it. Buyers, especially larger ones, increasingly have to prove the standards of their supply chain, and video makes your evidence easy to share.
7. Social cutdowns
From every shoot, cut 10 to 30 second clips for LinkedIn, Instagram and email. Vertical versions for phones, captions for people watching without sound, and a clear next step. This is where a single filming day keeps paying for months.
Getting the most from one filming day
- Plan the shot list together. Agree the films you want first, then list every shot they need, so nothing is missed on the day.
- Brief your team. Tell people when filming is happening, check PPE and tidy work areas. Safety on camera matters as much as safety off it.
- Pick your speakers. The best people on camera are usually those who know the work best, not the most senior. Short, relaxed interviews beat scripts.
- Think about where each film will live. Your website, proposals, LinkedIn, trade shows and recruitment all need different lengths and formats.

Questions people ask
What type of video should a manufacturer start with?
Start with a two to three minute capability film that shows what you make, how you make it and who for. Shorter process clips and social cutdowns can be edited from the same filming day.
Do you need a licence to film a factory with a drone?
Commercial drone filming in the UK requires a qualified, registered operator and proper planning, especially over industrial sites. Marmalade Digital uses fully licensed drone pilots.
How long does a manufacturing video shoot take?
Most capability films can be filmed in a single day on site, with enough footage captured to cut several shorter films for your website and social media.
